Chitwan, Aug 17: At a time when the infectious disease scrub typhus is spreading, a test kit needed to test for the disease is in short supply in the district hit worst. 

The patients suffering from scrub typhus are forced to head to Kathmandu as treatment remains out of bounds in Chitwan, the district recording the highest number of patients. 

The disease was being treated only at Chitwan Medical College in the district but from Tuesday the college found itself in shortage of testing kit, Administrator Dr Dayaram Lamsal said. 

The scrub typhus patients have been found in 20 districts of Nepal. The government officially declared its epidemic in the country last year which is spreading into various districts, Epidemiology and Disease Control Division's Epidemiology Section Chief, Gunnidhi Sharma said. 

The disease shows symptoms of headache, high fever, sweating, swollen gland and rashes around neck and throat area.
