Dose and Direction of Use
Use the Sterile Water For Injection provided to reconstitute. The reconstituted solution must be used immediately. TAZOCEF can be given as both I.V./I.M. injection.
Mode of Action
- Ceftriaxone binds with bacterial transpeptidase and inhibits the cross-linking of Peptidoglycan.
- This leads to bacterial cell wall synthesis inhibition and thus, resulting in the death of the bacteria.
- However, some bacteria produce Beta-lactamase enzyme that breaks the beta-lactam ring of ceftriaxone thus, making it ineffective.
- In such a scenario, Tazobactam provides its own Beta-lactam ring as a substrate for Beta-lactamase enzyme thus, saving Ceftriaxone which then exerts its bactericidal activity.
