Third Generation Cephalosporin + Beta-lactamase Inhibitor
Dose and Direction of Use
Take this tablet whole by mouth as prescribed by doctor. You can consume it after meal. The dosage depends upon your medical condition and response to the treatment.
Mode of Action
- Cefpodoxime Proxetil binds with bacterial transpeptidase and inhibits the cross-linking of Peptidoglycan.
- This leads to bacterial cell wall synthesis inhibition and thus, death of the bacteria.
- However, some bacteria produce Beta-lactamase enzyme that breaks the beta-lactam ring of Cefpodoxime Proxetil thus, making it ineffective.
- In such a scenario, Potassium Clavulanate provides its own Beta-lactam ring as a substrate for Beta-lactamase enzyme thus, saving Cefpodoxime Proxetil which then exerts its bactericidal activity.
