Phenox-250 is a brand name of Phenoxymethylpenicillin 250 mg Tablet. It is an antibiotic used to treat several bacterial infections. Phenoxymethylpenicillin is usually active against Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Dose and Direction of Use
Swallow the tablet whole by mouth with water 30 mins before food. Ingestion with meals slightly reduces the drug absorption. Don't crush, chew or break the tablet. Follow the dose and duration as prescribed by the doctor.
Mode of Action
- Penicillin binds to the transpeptidase and interferes with cross linking of peptidoglycan thus, interfering with the cell wall synthesis
- In this way, penicillin inhibits the cell wall synthesis of bacteria causing it to loose its shape, strength and rigidity followed by its death.
Uses
- Primary and Secondary prevention of Rheumatic Fever.
Contraindications
Don't use this medicine if you have:
- Hypersensitivity to Penicillin
Precautions and Warning
- Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding woman before taking this medicine to understand the risk and benefit ratio.
- Talk to your doctor about past medical history like kidney problem, breathing problem, seizure disorder or liver problem before taking this medicine
- Don't double the dose for the missed one.
- Complete the prescribed dose and duration of medicine. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat.
- Patient undergoing with this treatment are suggested to monitor differential blood count, as well as the liver and kidney function.
