Betavate-C cream contains two active ingredients, Betamethasone and Clioquinol, with different mechanisms of action which are thought to act complementary to each other in the treatment of various skin conditions. It generally reduces any itching, swelling, redness or inflammation.

Dose and Direction of Use
Wash and dry your hand at first. A small quantity of cream should be applied gently to the affected area two or three times daily until improvement occurs. It may then be possible to maintain improvement by applying once a day, or even less often. After, appyling , you should wash your hands, unless you applied the medication to your hand.
Mode of Action
Betamethasone belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids that help to reduce redness, swelling and irritation of the skin. Betavate-C also contains clioquinol, an anti-infective agent, which has both anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activity.
Uses
- Indicated for the treatment of the following conditions where secondary bacterial and/or fungal infection is present, suspected or likely to occur:
- Atopic dermatitis
- Nummular dermatitis (discoid eczema)
- Prurigo nodularis
- Psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis)
- Lichen simplex chronicus (neurodermatitis) and lichen planus
- Seborrhoeic dermatitis
- Irritant or allergic contact dermatitis
- Insect bite reactions
- Miliaria (prickly heat)
- Anal and genital intertrigo
- Otitis externa
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity
- Contra-indicated in children under 2 years of age.
- Rosacea
- Acne vulgaris
- Peri-oral dermatitis
- Perianal and genital pruritus
- Pruritus without inflammation
- Primary cutaneous viral infections (e.g. herpes simplex, chicken pox)
- Infected skin caused by bacterial infection (such as impetigo or tuberculosis)
- Fungal infections, such as ringworm, athletes foot or thrush
- Primary or secondary infections due to yeasts
Precautions and Warning
- Avoid contact of this medicine with open wounds and with the eyes and the moist membranes lining the inside of certain parts of the body, e.g. mouth, nasal passages (mucous membranes).
- Rinse with cold water if accidental contact occurs
- If the doctor has advised to use dressings with this medicine, the skin should be cleansed before reapplying the cream under a fresh dressing.
- This medicine should not be used for longer than five days on the face or in children.
