AZITH 500 is brand name of Azithromycin 500mg. Azithromycin is an antibiotic used to treat various types of bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, ear, nose, throat, lungs, skin, and eye in adults and children. It is also effective in typhoid fever and some sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea.

Dose and Direction of Use
Swallow the capsule whole by mouth. You can take it with or without food but it is better to take at a fixed time. Don't crush, chew or break the capsule. Follow the dose and duration as prescribed by the doctor.
Mode of Action
Azithromycin binds to the 23S rRNA of the bacterial 50S ribosomal subunit. It stops bacterial protein synthesis by inhibiting the transpeptidation/translocation step of protein synthesis and by inhibiting the assembly of the 50S ribosomal subunit Thus, it stops the bacteria from growing, and prevents the infection from spreading.

Bacterial infections of the blood, brain, lungs, bones, joints, urinary tract, stomach and intestines
Contraindications
Don't use this medicine if you have:
- Hypersensitivity to this medicine
Precautions and Warning
- Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding woman before taking this medicine to understand the risk and benefit ratio.
- Talk to your doctor about past medical history like kidney problem, heart problem or liver problem before taking this medicine
- Don't double the dose for the missed one.
- Complete the prescribed dose and duration of medicine. Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor.
- Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete.
- Don't take antacid 1 hour before or after taking this medicine
- Take it 1 hour before or two hours after food.
