My 35 months daughter has admitted at child hospital, diagnosis UTI then VUR with grade 2 left & grade 3 right, DMAS test has been done suggested by pediatric surgeon and result came as below: Left kidney: appears normal in size and shows normal renal cortical tracer uptake. Photopenic defects without breaks in cortical outline are noted in upper pole and mid zone (laterally). Right Kidney: appears normal in size and shows normal renal cortical tracer uptake. Photopenic defects without breaks in cortical outline are noted in lower pole. Differential Function: Left=52 & Right=48 Impression: 1. Normal sized left kidney with post pyelonephritic changes in upper pole and mid zone (laterally) 2. Normal sized right kidney with post pyelonephritic changes in lower pole. My 35 months daughter has discharge after 6 days from child hospital and current taking care by her mom who is certified PCL nurse and stop sending her to child school until she gets 100% healthy. right now she is taking antibiotic which is suggested by pediatric surgeon. Now she looks and performs healthy and has no any issues seen. After review this result by doctor and suggested laparoscopy surgery. But I've consult other two (2) urologist and one of them advised to do open surgery and another dr. told me that there is no require any surgery and it will go away when child growth and aged above 5 years old but has to take long term antibiotic to prevent further UTI problem. I've check Google and you tube about VUR-reason-symptoms and treatment and it suggest same like above doctors has told me. Now I'm little bit confuse what supposed to do. Meant time my daughter has no any problem seen and taking care by my wife who is certified PCL nurse as well. My question is what to do on this condition? and how I know who is best doctor for this kind of problem, please advise, thanks

If your child is thriving well, then keeping on antibiotics will be good enough rather than doing surgery. You can consult any Senior Consultant Pediatrician near by for discussion. Dr Sunil Raja Manandhar, Senior Consultant Pediatrician, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Senior Child Specialist, Kathmandu Medical College Teaching Hospital, Sinamangal
